Oystercatcher on the Riverside

This morning an Oystercatcher flew upriver at Gainsborough, with its piping call ringing out. It flew past Mercers Wood, heading towards the Bowling Green Road end of the riverside before veering off in the direction of Beckingham.

Plenty of birds still singing in Mercers Wood – Blackbird, Song Thrush, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Wren, Dunnock.

A lovely pair of Bullfinches at Roses Sports Field, and a Kestrel at the Morton end of the riverside path.

Lots of butterflies about, including Tortoiseshell, Ringlet and Comma.

On Field Lane just beyond Morton, a Yellowhammer was singing away from the top of a bush. Also seen there – a Reed Bunting, a Yellow Wagtail and a Roe Deer.
