We took part in a dawn chorus walk in Mercer Wood on Sunday, May 6th 2018, which was very successful. Thanks to all who turned up at such an early hour (5am). A cuckoo started calling when the walk had barely begun which was a great start. One hour later the walk ended with 22 species heard singing or seen. The chorus in the wood is at its height right now, so I would recommend it to anyone who can drag themselves up and out early.
The 22 species were – Cuckoo, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Robin, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Wren, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Dunnock, House Sparrow, Wood Pigeon, Collared Dove, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, Magpie, Pheasant and Lesser Black-backed Gull
